Last night it was a little weird to think that I still had two more days left in the weekend….welcome but weird. I spent a good bit of the day yesterday in the basement going through everything that got wet and trying to decide what could be tossed and what we should try to save. Most of it got tossed.
Then I picked my mom up from work and went up there for dinner. As you may have noticed, after I got home I spent the evening playing with my skins and things 😉
Today….I suppose I’ll head back to the dungeon and try to tidy it up a bit in case we have to have someone come in to look at the damn thing. We are supposed to have a new gas meter put in on the 20th anyway :-p
Okay, so I got it together finally….as you can see. As it turns out, most of the plug-ins do need to be in the MT template to work, just putting the MT tags around them doesn’t cut it. So I just brought the whole sidebar back into MT, rather than pulling it from an include and everything works again. I have to do some tweaking with a couple of the skins, but otherwise I’m content now 🙂
Now maybe I can work on getting my cookies, smiles and other shit working on the comments again….
Hey…it might happen.
Probably not tonight, though………
Okay….so since getting the skins up and running around here a few weeks ago, you’ve probably heard me say that not everything is running the way I want it to. Ya know….once or twice.
Well, today I fixed some of the things that have been bugging me….like the comment pop-up. I was all thrilled that it was pulling the appropriate skin, but it drove me nuts that after posting a comment, it would go the individual page in the pop up and just look all funky….since I’m not especially attached to the pop-ups (and since I am obsessed with everything matching), I just decided to axe the pop-ups completely.
Then I tried to get my plug-ins to work again but they are being stubborn and I just don’t know why 😦 The only thing I can figure is that they don’t like something to do with the skins coding….but I don’t understand that because the MT templates still work and all the plug-ins are coded for MT – arrggghhh!
In a few minutes, I’m going to see what happens when I put the plug-ins in my main MT template…..but if anyone has any advice on how to fix this, I’d really appreciate it :-
Well, if you go by the radio around here, it’s been Christmas-time since a few days after Halloween…..but anyway….
I have a couple of Christmas skins ready to roll so if you’re in a festive mood you can switch over to one of them.
You know the second one there is my favorite 😉
I’m going to wait a few days before I have a default Holiday skin, but in the meantime you can take your pick…..I may try to get another one together in a bit, but I have to go out soon.
It’s time for the Black Friday edition of The Friday Five……yes, I do have the day off and no, I’m not going anywhere. Screw that, I’m not going anywhere near a store until February :-p
1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not? Not so much with the shopping anymore….I think it’s mostly due to the fact that I always get this little pang of guilt if I buy something for myself. That is if I actually make it to the check-out with it….most of the time I put it back in lieu of something for Brittany :- And grocery shopping is just a huge pain in the ass now since I can’t go on like a Monday morning anymore……last time I went on a Sunday morning and the place was jam packed. Then when I was looking for a pack of hot dogs, a friggin’ string band came marching through the damn store!
2. What was the last thing you purchased? A couple of gifts for Bill and Brittany….I can’t post what I got for Bill but I got Brittany a My Little Pony playset and two extra ponies, a JumpStart pre-school program for the computer and a video tape of Barbie Swan Lake to go with the Swan Lake doll and playset we got her. I’m still not real thrilled about the whole Barbie thing but whenever we ask what she wants for Christmas, that’s what she says…..so she’s getting Swan Lake and two regular Barbie’s and that’s it. If it takes off, I suppose we’ll get her more for her birthday :-p
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Particularly this time of year….I get all flustered whenever I have to go into any big store or a mall and I usually just wind up grabbing 2 or 3 things and getting the hell out of there…which really does me absolutely no good because then I have to go back again! No, if I can’t get gifts online or out of a catalog, they ain’t gettin’ got.
4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it? I remember getting $5 a week for cleaning the bathroom…..of course, as soon as I got it, I had to use $3.25 of it to pay my bowling fees for the team I was on so it was kind of a rip and only ever turned out to be enough for bowling, a soda and a bag of chips. Of course I was like 11 so what else did I need money for?
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing? I can’t think of anything, really…..how weird is that? I’m gonna have to look around and see if I can spot anything I regret buying……..

Dude…..the fucking drawbacks of house living…….
I just went downstairs to get something to drink before calling it a night….I almost didn’t because I was just that freakin’ tired. Boy am I glad now that I did…..
About 8:30 or so, I went to rinse out a cup and found that we had no hot water. I figure the pilot was out because it just does that from time to time for some reason…we’ve had it looked at and all they can tell us is that it’s because the basement is generally pretty damp. Handy as I like to think I am….sorry, I’m just not lighting the pilot. It’s just my luck that the friggin’ thing would blow up in my face….so I just let it go. Bill went up to see his dad but he’ll be back tomorrow….I will not die without a shower in the meantime.
Anyway, as I walked past the door to the basement I hear this buzzing-whirring noise and felt my heart just jump right into my throat. So I run down the steps just hoping it’s something simple like the buzzer on the dryer stuck from earlier today….
No such friggin’ luck.
It’s the hot water heater, of course….and it’s spewing water out the relief valve…..the floor and everything around it is completely soaked and, as I said, Bill had already left to go see his dad.
Okay, so obviously, I have to shut something off, right? I know the pilot is out because there is no hot water….so I’m not overly concerned about blowing myself up just yet. So I survey the area, count no fewer than 8 shut-off valves on various pipes leading into the hot water heater….and go back upstairs for the phone.
Call Bill who sneaks down the basement so that his dad can’t here what he’s doing and examines the hot water heater there so he can tell what to do with ours…..they just aren’t the same. For one thing, the plumbing leading into the one up there is pretty direct so there aren’t anywhere near as many valves around and the relief vent there, doesn’t have a hood on it – ours does. And it’s makes it quite difficult to see exactly what’s going on underneath except that there is water coming out of it!!!
So best guess on ruling out which valves are gas lines and which are water lines….finding ten thousand wrenches when all I need is a goddamn pair of pliers….and I finally got it to stop making that awful whirring noise.
So now it’s just an awful dripping noise.
I sopped up what I could of the water and left it alone, hoping that the dripping is just some residual water dripping down the water heater somewhere I can’t reach. When bill gets home tomorrow, he’s gonna take a look at it. I suppose even if we do have to call a plumber, nobody would be here till monday for this sort of thing anyway….I can always shower at my parents house, if need be.
Gee…..for some reason, I’m just not so very tired anymore.
Christ, my knees are so weak still that I can barely stand up :-
Guess I’ll try to go see if it’s stopped dripping…….
Ya know…..just in case you were curious as to what an apple pie with cream cheese filling and a walnut encrusted top would look like.
Sooooooo good. But very rich of course…and I can honestly say that I only had one small piece. I actually think I did very well at dinner….hey, my jeans were still loose when I left and my scale still shows me 8 pounds lighter than I was two weeks ago 😉
My chicken came out great and I brought home the carcass to make soup. I was going to put it in to start boiling tonight, but by the time we got home, I just wanted to sit around and not do a damn thing.
It’s going well so far and I intend to be asleep shortly 🙂
Hope everyone had a great day!!
Happy Turkey Day…..Pilgrim 🙂
Brittany had her little Thanksgiving pageant at school yesterday. It was so cute, all the older kids dressed up as pilgrims and the babies and toddlers in the downstairs class dressed as Indians. Brittany’s teacher read the story of the first Thanksgiving while all the kids did little actions to go along with the story….then the Indians came up and the all gathered around a table with a huge turkey made of brown paper bags – lol 🙂 Then they all sung songs and recited poems and a prayer.
My dad met me at her school with their video camera so we got the whole thing on tape. After the show, they had a little luncheon with cold-cuts and soda….and pie, of course.
When I left, I went up to Superfresh to get a chicken and some other things for today. We are going to my parents house, but my mom has to have a turkey and me and my dad don’t particularly care for turkey….so I said I’d rotisserie a chicken. I actually bought 2 4 pounders because they looked a little small….figured even if they don’t want both (and they don’t), I can always freeze the other and make it next week or something.
Since my mom is going to have stuffing and all that with the turkey, I’m just going to stuff the chicken with rice, as I did last year. I made 4 cornish hens and stuffed them with wild rice…they came out really well, but I just wanted the chicken this year.
I’m also going to make some banana-nut bread…..maybe. I haven’t decided yet. Either way, I have an awesome pumpkin pie (that I made 🙂 and a coconut custard pie (from the store) to bring and they got my favorite apple-walnut pie from the Dining Car….that pie is just sinful – huge chunks of apples in a whipped cream cheese filling and the top is completely encrusted with walnuts. Yummm 🙂
By the way, whether you are dieting or not, that pumpkin pie recipe is amazing! Of course, I am of the opinion that if it has amaretto in it, it just can’t be bad – lol! I made it last weekend and it was just delicious….I brought it into work so that all my favorite cooking critics could try it. Everyone loved it, even AV who hates pumpkin pie. Try it….it is soooooooo worth it.
Okay….I should go get started on something, I suppose.
Have a kick-ass Thanksgiving, everyone 😉
“If you’ve ever been accused of lying through your tooth, you might be a redneck.”
We were watching the Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie on the Comedy Channel this morning. I was dying…
Brittany came in from watching Dumbo just to laugh at us laughing. Then she walked away shaking her head saying “It’s really not that funny….”
So anyway, now that’s on my wish list 😉
It should not take me more than an hour to get home. At least not in any universe but this one. I even left early today – 3:15, rather than 3:30 – because Fridays are proving to be a huge pain in the ass….didn’t make a bit of difference. During normal traffic times and on the weekends, it takes me all of 15 minutes to travel the whole 12.5 miles from my house to work….today it took me 85 minutes. Just not cool….and now I have a huge freakin’ headache :-p
