I may be able get on for a few here and there while we are away but I really want to just do some knitting, some reading and alot of nothing……besides running to the fair and al that is 😉 But if I get on, I’ll let ya’ll know what we’re up to……..
Later!

The Friday Five – 08.23.02

The Friday Five
1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not?
I am a Veterinary Medical Laboratory Technician….I split my 37 hour week between 2 labs in the pathology department of the Veterinary Hospital of an Ivy League School that shall remain nameless. Short answer, yes this is what I had hoped I’d be doing by now…..long answer, right here 🙂
2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be?
Not to be blunt or anything….this is my dream occupation – I have a picture of myself somewhere around here dressed up for career day as a lab tech. That was in second grade! I wanted to be a coroner for a while, but alot of what I’m doing now, I’d be doing if I were a coroner (‘cept it’d be people, not animals). Occasionally I think I’d still like to be lighting manager for a touring production of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ but I know me and I’d get tired of that…….
3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices?
Aside from working in graphic arts for about 10 years, my mom always had sort of clerical jobs – mortgages, sales, etc. – but for the past ten years or so, she’s been a Customs Inspector. My dad was a sign worker – he made and installed signs on, in and around buildings. He makes it a point to remind me that he put up all the signs in my building 😉
My parents didn’t really influence me….it was my sister. I remember thinking how cool it was that she was learning all that chemistry and anatomy at James Martin (the school she attended to become a tech) and just knew that I wanted to do soething like that…………that was a loooooooong time ago :-
4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family?
Not yet…..hope I never do. The difficult part about it all has been daycare – I’m counting the days till Brittany starts school – lol 🙂
5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why?
I dunno about easy…….and I may be a little biased but I think the hardest job in the world has to be that of any Emergency Response…..Police, Fire, EMT, whatever. You know who I mean, the first ones there whenever anything goes wrong. I don’t think I could do it everyday…..especially to deal with assholes like this. And to be paid less than ‘sanitation workers’ for it…..bah :-p

back…..sort of

I’m baaaaaaaaack. Sort of. Things have just been……….blah around here for the past week. Brittany has been dealing with an interesting virus….if you want to read all the gory details, I’ll be posting them in the babyblog in a few minutes.
And I’ve just been in a TV mood lately – we got our hands on the entire first season of The Shield and I actually sat my ass down one night after Brittany went to bed and watched 5 hours of it! Great show 🙂
But now, I have to start getting ready for our vacation……I have a bunch of baby stuff that I need to get together to bring to the storage facility up the mountains. I need to get my car cleaned out to do that – I bet I have a record number of empty soda bottles in there now. Bill and his dad found some things for my car that they are going to put on it while we’re up there……new 15″ aluminum wheels, new front seats and some other upgrades. I may even try to keep it clean after they do that.
Maybe.
Anyway, I’m off now. Gonna post Brittany’s update and then go figure out what’s for dinner………….

patience

Okay, folks…..I’m gonna need to ask for some help. As we speak, I am starting a huge consolidation process. I have 300 MB of webspace here and am using nearly half of it on God only knows what. I know there are alot of html files ang images that are not in use anymore so the first thing I’m doing is moving all of my graphics into one file – finally. I don’t know why I haven’t been doing this from the beginning, but whatever…….
What does this mean for you? Temporarily broken images. I hope the whole thing won’t take very long to actually do, but making sure everything works…….that could take a while. So, if you see something not working, let me know….I’ll get to it eventually.
Wish me luck 😉

vacation

It’s nearly vacation time……I cannot tell you just how much I’m looking forward to this. I just realized last night that it’s been nearly 8 months since I’ve had more than two days off. Well, I had a long weekend around Brittany’s birthday, but that was it.
In other words, it’s just sinking in that I’m actually working full time, now.
We’re going up the mountains for a week or so – it’s fair time, don’t ya know 😉 I love going to this fair….even though I fell kinda bad that I don’t have anything to enter for jundging this year.
I knew I wasn’t going to have any knitting to enter, but I thought I’d have something else….I dunno, I may try to get some photos together to enter. I may have a couple good ones 😉

lotions

I was just going through a couple of my picture files and I found this one that I had taken while we were in New York for my birthday…..

………a very interesting and colorful assortment of lotions that we found in a little shop that we wandered into while roaming around 😉

Event

An Event is about to happen. We are on our way out the door…..Brittany is going to the movies for the first time tonight 🙂

The Friday Five – 08.09.02

The Friday Five
1. Do you have a car? If so, what kind of car is it?
Actually, we have three cars. A ’91 Ford Escort that I drive, a ’93 Chevy Blazer and a ’94 Thunderbird. The Blazer is in storage now, we’ll be getting that out for the fall and winter. The Thunderbird (which is in exceptional condition) is eventually going to be a ‘show’ car….Bill wants to fix it up with all kinds ofbells and whistles and take it to car shows – I think it’s cool the way it is. It’s stealthy.
2. Do you drive very often?
Sometimes, I think I drive too often. It’s unusual if I don’t drive….Friday thru tuesday, I’m at least driving to work and then the other two days, I like to take Brittany at least one place and everything nearby sucks so we have to drive to any nice parks or playgrounds or stores……so, yeah, I drive alot.
3. What’s your dream car?
Our Thunderbird is a dream….it’s just all car and I love that – it’s black and it’s got a V8 Ford engine. Sweet 🙂 For me personally…? I desperately want a Focus, but I’d settle for a Lancer 😉
4. Have you ever received a ticket?
Never gotten a moving violation but I’ve gotten parking tickets while at work – never anywhere to park out there…….
5. Have you ever been in an accident?
Not while i was driving and never anything serious…..couple of fender benders here and there – that’s pretty much it.
The Friday Five courtesy of Heather – great questions this week, hon!!!! I’m curious to see what everyone drives 😉

New contacts and glasses….

Well. I went to the eye doctor finally yesterday. Very interesting experience this time around. Had my first glaucoma check which was just wierd. And they dilated my pupils which they always do, but this time, I had to drive myself home with said dilated pupils. I think I drove home with my eyes closed.
Anyway, I ordered new glasses – I told the woman that I am tired of the lenses popping out on me…which inevitably happens once Brittany gets a hold of them. She suggested getting the smallest frames I can possibly use – thereby making the lenses thinner. So, I got them a little smaller than my current frames and I found a pair that the lenses would actually be connected to, not just popped into.
And. This totally made my day…..I found out that I can get disposable contacts – I can get 4 pairs (1 year supply) of disposables for $250 as opposed to one pair for $395 – sweet!!!
So the orders are in. Everything should be in by early next week, but I have to be fitted for the contacts again so they may have to re-order them.
::sigh::
I hate having an astigmatism this bad. Bill can walk into the eye doctor and walk out with his $90 pair of brand new contacts…..I have to be fitted every time, pay way too much and wait 3 weeks to get them.
Bah :-p

Geek or not….?

You are 24% geek

OK, so maybe you ain’t a geek. You do, at least, show a bit of interest in the world around you. Either that, or you have enough of a sense of humor to pick some of the sillier answers on the test. Regardless, you’re probably a pretty nifty, well-rounded person who gets along fine with people and can chat with just about anyone without fear of looking stupid or foolish or overly concerned with minutia. God, I hate you.
